Dancing in the Clover – a view of the Stars
Welcome to Social Dancing for Adults!
If you have visited this site in the last several weeks you have heard me talk about the upcoming event called Dancing in the Clover. This event features local “Celebrities” partnering with local Professional dance instructors to perform a routine in front of a live audience.
The purpose of the event is to raise money for the Union County 4H Foundation whose goal is to endow $300,000 in 2012. The Foundation believes that every young person is unique with individual talents, gifts and an innate desire to achieve. The ability of young people to aspire to their full potential is only possible with support from a community which believes in their responsibility to support them in becoming successful adults.
As with any non-profit organization, their main source of revenue comes from donations and fund raisers like the Dancing in the Clover event. This money and the interest that it earns will fund scholarships for Union County youth of all racial, cultural, economic and social backgrounds. Through fund raisers of this nature the Foundation has been able to send many youth to 4H Camp, 4H Congress, 4H Citizen Focus and other events over the past 12 years. These events help our youth develop life skills need to be contributing members of our community.
My Mother and Father believed in supporting charities that gave back to the community as did their parents before them. My family’s organization of choice is the Masonic Orders, which include the Free Masons and the Order of the Eastern Star. Both of these organizations focus on community involvement, but more importantly, they each contribute heavily to charities. The Free Masons support the Oxford Home for Children and the Order of the Eastern Star support the WhiteStone Masonic Community for the elderly.
Supporting the 4-H Foundation is just another way to contribute to my community and help those who are living here now and will live here in the future. The thing that I love most about being involved in Dancing with the Clover that I have the opportunity to use my talents to help others, but dancing with two lovely ladies is also a nice perk. I would like to take a moment and tell you a little about my two partners.
Clara is very involved in the community and has served on the Turning Point Board for three years, and has served on the Hospital Ball Committee for several years as well. Currently Clara is a board member of the Community Health Services of Union County, is a board member of the Union Diversified Industry. She serves on the Union 4-H Foundation’s Dancing in the Clover committee.
Judy is an actor, director, producer and award-winning playwright whose work has been produced by theatres across the country. She is a member of Dramatics Guild and North Carolina Writers Network. In 2003, she was named an NC Playwriting Fellow by the NC Arts Council. She is founder and artistic director of The Storefront Theatre, a reader’s theatre in Waxhaw.
During the event, we will be competing against other couples for your votes. We could really use your help to make it to the top. Your donations, which will transition to votes, will be the only way we can win. To help make this process simple, you may vote online at http://donate.union4hfoundation.com/ and you can even start voting now before the event.
Here is how the contest works. Each couple will perform a choreographed routine with a 2 1/2 minute time limit. During the event, judges will provide a score and that score combined with the monetary votes received by a couple at the event and online will yield this year’s winner.
Your votes are IMPORTANT!! They are important for two reasons: first, they will help determine the 2012 winner and second, they are also important because your “votes” are donations. Your donations will help fund programs for youth in Union County!
Remember that all donations are tax deductible, so please vote and help us take home the win for this event. Hope to see you there and thankds for your support.
Remember to keep dancing!
